Australian Dietetics Council
The DAA Board announces the formation of the Australian Dietetics Council (ADC) - a new governance structure for DAA accreditation and recognition services.
From July 1, 2009 the Dietetic Standards and Accreditation Advisory Committee (DSAAC) and the Council on Dietetic Skills Recognition (CODSR) as they currently exist, will be disbanded and the roles and responsibilities of DSAAC and CODSR will be assumed by the ADC.
The Council’s primary function is to provide independent high level strategic advice, on matters relating to accreditation and recognition, to the DAA Board.
The Council will have a key continuous quality improvement role ensuring that DAA delivers accreditation and recognition services that are efficient, effective, equitable, accountable and transparent and are framed in a best practice model.
The guiding principles of the Australian Dietetics Council are to:
· Align with the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) direction for the National Registration and Accreditation of Health Professions scheme
· Enable transparency for members, clients, health services and the Government
· Enable separation of policy and operational functions
· Enable broader representation
· Enable greater independence thus reducing potential conflict of interest
· Support a move to a business model ensuring a more sustainable service
· Support corporate governance principles and enable greater accountability
· Link across other related DAA committees, such as the Accredited Practising Dietitian Advisory Committe (APDAC) and Membership Assessment and Reinstatement Advisory Committee (MARAC).
The ADC will comprise nine members appointed by the Board for a two year term. Of the nine members there will be three senior academic dietitians, three senior practitioner dietitians and three external members.
