Mission:         Supporting members and better food, better health, better living for all.

Introduction

The 2007-10 Strategic Plan builds on the outcomes and strong platform delivered by the 2002-06 Strategic Plan and provides a broad overview of the association's direction for the next four years. It is divided into four key result areas of leadership, excellence in practice, communications and marketing, and management and quality.

Leadership

Goal: To strengthen leadership in nutrition and dietetics

Strategic Activities

  • Secure representation on federal and key State/Territory committees/authorities impacting on food, nutrition and health in Australia, regionally and internationally.
  • Develop relationships with other nutrition and dietetic organisations internationally.
  • Engage in proactive and strategic advocacy to influence decision making.
  • Fostering joint alliances with relevant groups/associations to enhance advocacy and influence.
  • Develop the leadership skills and capacity of the organisation and the membership.
  • Broaden and develop membership categories.
  • Take a key leadership role in obesity prevention and management.
  • Take a leadership role in the changing workforce agenda.
  • Foster a culture of professional respect and tolerance within the profession.

Excellence of Practice

Goal: To promote excellence of practice in all areas of nutrition and dietetics
 
Strategic Activities

  • Maintain the association's position and relevance in nutrition and dietetic education and accreditation.
  • Develop accreditation processes including broader categories of membership.
  • Strengthen recognition of APD as the criteria for credentialing across all areas of dietetic workforce.
  • Encourage and support continuing professional development through improved access and equity of CPD opportunities.
  • Facilitate opportunities to develop and implement evidence based practice.
  • Provide opportunities for members to develop advanced practice skills and extended scope of practice.
  • Promote mutual recognition arrangements with other dietetic associations.
  • Support members in understanding and responding to emerging issues e.g. food regulation, workforce issues.
  • Support members to develop relevant and professional nutrition education resources.

Communication and Marketing

Goal: To raise the profile and opportunities of DAA and DAA members
 
Strategic Activities

  • Increase community awareness of DAA as the leading Nutrition organisation in Australia.
  • Increase community awareness of dietitians and the Accredited Practising Dietitian credential as experts in nutrition and dietetics.
  • Promote the diversity and expertise of DAA's members to key groups within Australia.
  • Enhance communication between and to all members.
  • Expand the sponsorship/partnership base consistent with DAA Policy.
  • Communication of accurate and practical nutrition information to Australians.

Management and Quality

Goal:   To provide excellent and responsive customer focussed service
 
Strategic Activities

  • Develop and secure a sustainable resource base.
  • Restructure fiscal management of Branches to meet best practice.
  • Advocate for increased and improved work opportunities, roles and career progression.
  • Maximise volunteer capacity through development of incentives, recognition and rewards.
  • Evaluate DAA activities and need for volunteer support.
  • Review DAA operational and governance structures.
