Join APD

Participation in the APD program provides members of the program with many benefits:

  1. The APD credential is recognised by the Australian Governement, Medicare, Department of Veterans' Affairs and most private health funds as the quality standard for nutrition and dietetic services in Australia.
  2. APDs benefit from facilitated access to continuing professional development resources, which in turn, will help develop standards of excellence throughout our profession.
  3. APDs gain increased recognition and professional standing through marketing initiatives.

A brochure titled  Accredited Practising Dietitians: your nutrition experts is an example of promotional material which DAA NAtional Office sends to key organisations, opinion shapers, referrers, employers and consumer groups as part of our multi-level promotional campaign.

APDs undertake an initial year in the provisional program. This involves completion of the required continuing professional development (CPD) program, and having the support of a professional mentor for at least six months of the initial 12 month period. Experienced and currently practising dietitians can apply for full APD status via an alternate process. Please see Application Guidelines for Full APD Status (experienced and practising dietitians).

An information kit is available to provide detailed information on the program.

The Guide to the APD Program, Continuing Professional Development and Mentoring, which details the program requirements and the responsibilities of mentee and mentor, is provided to all new APDs. An APD certificate is issued annually on renewal of membership.

DAA urges you to join the program. Not only for the very real and tangible benefits it offers, but also to help further the development of our profession.

As Accredited Practising Dietitians we must ensure that our unique body of knowledge and expertise is used to improve the health of all Australians.
