The Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) is the national Association of the profession, with branches in each State and Territory. The precursor of DAA, the Australian Association of Dietitians, was established in 1976. The Association became known as DAA in 1983. DAA represents over 4,000 members. Dietitians are employed in a wide variety of work areas including clinical dietetics, community nutrition, education, private sector, government, research and industry.

The Board of DAA is responsible for the management of the Association's affairs. It comprises of the President, the Vice-President, and eight elected Directors each from a different State or Territory. Administrative and professional support is provided by the Chief Executive Officer, the Professional Services Manager and other staff in DAA's National Office located in Canberra, ACT.

DAA supports its members through:

  • National Office services
  • National and branch committees
  • Branch services and activities
  • National and branch conferences, workshops and seminars
  • National and international representation

DAA provides a range of publications to keep members informed about the profession and current issues in nutrition and dietetics. These include Nutrition & Dietetics (previously titled the Australian Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics), website, newsletters, conference proceedings, handbooks and pamphlets.

DAA has a strong history of proud achievement, both at national and branch levels. By members working together, the Association will build on these achievements and strengths. Close links with a range of organisations are maintained to ensure DAA policies and the views of its members are well represented.

DAA has a well developed marketing and public relations program which includes partnerships with industry. The introduction of the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) Program has provided an important framework for further developing and maintaining standards of practice by the profession.
