Info for Professionals

Health, Food & Education Professionals

Dietitians are university-qualified experts in nutrition and dietetics. They have the skills and training to provide food and nutrition advice to meet individual health and lifestyle needs, develop food policy, feed an army or develop and market a new food product.

When choosing your nutrition professional, look for an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD). The APD credential is a public guarantee of nutrition and dietetic expertise. APDs undertake ongoing training and education to comply with the Dietitians Association of Australia's (DAA) guidelines for best practice. They are committed to the DAA Code of Professional Conduct and Code of Ethics and to providing quality service.

Membership of DAA is open to dietitians who have graduated from a DAA accredited course in Australia or who have passed the DAA examination for overseas qualified dietitians. Other nutrition qualified professionals who meet DAA criteria are able to join as associate members.

DAA publishes Nutrition & Dietetics (previously titled the Australian Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics), the member's Newsletter and a variety of other documents to support dietetic practice and better food, better health and better living for all Australians.

DAA is leading the way to better nutrition - review some of DAA's recent submissions to see the action on food and health issues that DAA is recommending.

DAA seeks to reduce confusion and misinformation about nutrition - see the Media Releases on important food and nutrition issues that help provide the facts and clarify some of the myths surrounding nutrition.
